Updates in the District

The water-well planters in the Historic Downtown corridor are looking fantastic! The flowers are blooming and the plants are alive and well! In addition, the HDSID placed the plant signs so we all can remember to be mindful of our local ecosystem.

Join us for our monthly Historic Downtown Special Improvement District Meeting on July 21st in the HDSID Office (not in the Caucus Room as previously scheduled), 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. All are welcome to attend!


Virtual Science Trivia

Did your mind turn into mush during the quarantine? Want to go against your friends and test your science trivia? Get the kids involved to show off their knowledge too! The Liberty Science Center is back with their Science Trivia games, albeit virtually! Compete in comfortable clothes, from the comfort of your home.

The virtual science trivia day will be held every Tuesday, 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm on LSC’s Facebook page.

The next scheduled online event is on Tuesday, July 21st at 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm. The topics range from animals and space to technology and everything in between. You don’t have to be a pro- just grab your friends and family, and have fun!

We have two flag raising events happening this week:


Colombian Flag Raising

Please join Mayor Fulop, the City Council, the Office of Cultural Affairs and the Colombian-American Community on July 20th at 12:00 pm for the Colombian Flag Raising ceremony! This free ceremony will take place outside at the City Hall Plaza, everyone is welcome to attend and all participants must wear masks and follow social distancing rules.

Crip Camp: Netflix Watch Party & Panel Discussion

On Sunday, July 26th at 6:30 pm, join hosts, Art House Productions and Bojana Coklyat-DiFeo for an online viewing and discussion of the documentary, Crip Camp! Crip Camp is an inspiring documentary focusing on the achievements, activities and movement created by a group of teens with disabilities at camp. The watch party and discussion of the film will be online and will have closed captions, ASL interpretation, and audio description.

School’s Out, My Gym Camp is In!

It’s mid-July… have you thought about some fun activities for your kids yet? Well, My Gym is here to take care of that, thanks to their summer camp programs!

The summer sessions began on June 22nd and run until September 4th, Monday through Thursday for the entire day and on Fridays, morning sessions will be held only. The summer camp is geared towards kids from 2½ to 13 years old and the kiddos will be split into groups based on their ages.

As if having fun with wasn’t enough after spending weeks indoors, the camp will have different themes each week! As per the organizers, campers can expect:

July 27th- July 31st- Olympics

Aug 3rd-7th- Spy Kids

Aug 10th-14th- Space

Aug 17th-21st- Sports

Aug 24th-28th- Trolls  

Aug 31st-Sept 4th- Superheroes

The Farmer’s Market is held every Monday and Thursday at the Grove PATH Plaza and the First Green area of the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Mall from 4:00 – 8:00 pm!


Stop by and get all of your food essentials and a couple of desserts, you deserve it!

The health of our farm vendors, HDSID staff, and visitors is of utmost important so we have implemented a set of guidelines for everyone to follow. We want everyone to have an easy and stress-free time shopping for goods at the Market. Kindly take a moment to review the customer guidelines listed below. Guidelines were also implemented for the Market staff and the vendors.

We have taken into account the rules and regulations set forth by the Jersey City Department of Health and Human Services. Kindly review the guidelines before attending the Market.


  • If you feel ill, please stay home
  • If you’ve come into contact with someone who has either tested positive for COVID-19 or has symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home
  • All customers must wear masks and gloves
  • Stay 6 feet apart from other customers
  • The Market will have signs, lines, and information on where to stand
  • Follow the signs placed throughout the Farmer’s Market
  • Customers are not allowed to touch the food. Vendors will select products for customers.
  • Please consider placing and paying for your orders online, at https://www.localline.ca/historic-downtown-farmers-market
  • Please do not linger at the market
  • Avoid any hand-to-hand contact
  • Do not hand payment to vendors directly. Place cash and credit cards on the table for the cashiers to pick up.
  • No dogs are allowed at the farmers’ market unless they are service dogs
