Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest
Peanut butter and jelly, mac and cheese, chalk and a sidewalk. Some things just go together. Those hot summer days in the city, one of the easiest games to play with your friends was hopscotch. Or just drawing with colorful chalk on the gray concrete canvas. Well, this is slightly more elevated then some plain ol’squares on the sidewalk. On Saturday, June 29th at 10:00 am, Hazel Baby & Kids is having their 2nd Annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest!
Register on Eventbrite (sidewalkchalkcontest.eventbrite.com) and get a ticket so your kiddo can participate (it’s a free event!) Show up on Saturday and let your lil’ Picasso have fun!
There will be two prizes from each age group:
- 1 Month of Free Art Class (Level 1 or 2)
- $50 Gift Card to Hazel Baby & Kids
Apart from chalk art, there will face painting, fun and 10% off children’s art supplies!

Well-Read Black Girl Book Discussion: Sister Love
Join WORD and the Well-Read Black Girl Book Club on Sunday, June 30th at 3:00 pm for a discussion about the book, Sister Love!
Here’s a little bit about the book:
“Pat Parker and Audre Lorde first met in 1969; they began exchanging letters regularly five years later. Over the next fifteen years, Lorde and Parker shared ideas, advice, and confidences through the mail. They sent each other handwritten and typewritten letters and postcards often with inserted items including articles, money, and video tapes. Sister Love: The Letters of Audre Lorde and Pat Parker 1974-1989 gathers this correspondence for readers to eavesdrop on Lorde and Parker. They discuss their work as writers as well as intimate details of their lives, including periods when each lived with cancer. Sister Love is a rare opportunity to glimpse inside the minds and friendship of two great twentieth century poets.”
